Diabetic eye health examinations:
A type I or II diabetic patient should have yearly dilated retinal examinations. If diabetic changes are noted in your eye you will have more frequent visits depending on the severity of the diabetic changes.
If "diabetic retinopathy," or changes to the retina are seen, the Visucam by Carl Zeiss allows the doctor to image the retina and document even the smallest diabetic change with both accuracy and high definition. If there are changes on the front of the eye the doctor will utilize the Haag-Streit Eyecap system to visualize and capture real time photos of the front of the eye or lens.
